SALLY BLEVINS MA, LPC THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
My approach is experiential and mindful. This means that I will attune myself to what I see happening in the session including more than just words. Together we will work experientially to discover ways to move forward while transforming the past into a new future. I practice applied existential therapy as a means of healing deep emotional issues. We may find ways in which to creatively express emotion. One of the ways may be narrative therapy in which we work together to create a new story and thus a clearer perception of self. Together we may practice relaxation and mindfulness exercises.
You can expect to receive suggested practice assignments geared to helping your progress in your therapy.
EFT: Emotions are connected to neurological and endocrine responses. Emotion Focused Therapy helps clients transform problematic emotional states or unwanted self experiences into a new, adaptive, positive emotional state. Clients are helped to identify, experience, explore and to makes sense of emotions. Clients transform their emotions and learn to flexibly manage their new emotional experiences.
Creativity Techniques: Art making is used to enhance the therapeutic/ healing experience. Various art materials are used to find, experience and transform emotion. The creative process is used as a means of releasing emotion, as the therapeutic experience or as an augmentation to the therapy experience by reinforcing the healing process of traditional therapies.
Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a combination of living in the now and being focused and aware. To put it another way mindfulness is being fully present and experiencing this moment. This can be achieved through breathing techniques and other self calming and relaxing techniques.
