EFT: Emotions are connected to neurological and endocrine responses. Emotion Focused Therapy helps clients transform problematic emotional states or unwanted self experiences into a new, adaptive, positive emotional state. Clients are helped to identify, experience, explore and to makes sense of emotions. Clients transform their emotions and learn to flexibly manage their new emotional experiences.
In perspective of EFT change happens by awareness, regulation, reflection and transformation of emotion in an empathic therapeutic relationship. Clinically speaking a client arrives at a live experience of a maladaptive emotion in order to make the transformation to a new emotional state.
EFT is considered a short term therapy meaning it takes place over 8 to 20 sessions.
EFT is used in couples therapy and family therapy.
