How Applied Existential Psychotherapy works:
AEP is psychodynamic, based on Gestalt and experiential therapy. This means it works on the present and how the present is impacted by the past. It deals with both physical/ somatic/ body feelings and with emotions. It focuses on the anxiety that occurs when a client experiences a conflict related to meaning, purpose and values. The therapist helps the client gain insight into themselves and the nature of their problem in order to make better choices.
How is Applied Existential Therapy a solution:
AEP is particularly beneficial in relieving symptoms that a person is experiencing due to trauma. It is helpful for finding a balance of freedom and responsibility in relationships and for accepting that anxiety on some level may be a part of everyday life, then learning how to live within that reality.
