Trauma Informed Expressive Arts Therapy
Expressive arts are used to stabilize the body’s responses to trauma. Our bodies react to stressful event and to retain a record of the event through bodily memories.
A trauma-informed evaluation is used to determine trauma levels and assess for trauma responses.
Trauma informed expressive arts therapy is used to respond to how the body has reacted to traumatic events. Sensory-based activities using expressive arts are used to assess and to process. These therapy techniques are used to help the client self-regulate.
The client’s sense of safety is reinforced using these techniques. The client learns to self-soothe and to self-regulate emotions. The client is able to gain strength and to learn or gain resilience.
